Nollywood actor, producer and movie director, Damola Olatunji is known for being bold and daring in his movies but are things he would never trio of wearing a tattoo, getting a body piercing or being ‘caught wearing a G-string’.
The free-spirited and funny actor talked his fashion style and other passions in this exciting chat.
The Engineer turned actor described what fashion meant to him as “whatever you are comfortable in” while stating that his personal fashion policy is to keep things simple and casual which he got from his mentor, brother, friend and number one role model, Yomi Fash- Lanso and American movie superstar, Will Smith. He however reveals that he can dress as flamboyantly as possible when occasion demands it or when he has a particular role to play on set. But basically, he loves being free and simple.
The proud father of twins stated that he cannot be called a fashionista because he doesn’t go the extra mile with fashion. In his words ” I just love being neat, free and simple”. When asked if he has ever had any fashion mishap, he categorically said ‘No’. This, he says, is because “I don’t step out of my house in something I am not comfortable in”. He however recalls an encounter he had, although no one saw him, in which a new shoe he had kept for like 4 months and finally wore to an event embarrassed him by splitting open.
The actor, who recently became an hotelier, said his style changes from time to time because of his job, which according to him is his “first love and as an actor you don’t truly own yourself, the job owns you”. He stated categorically that” I can change my look for money”.
He said he can never be caught with a permanent tattoo or with piercing except for a movie roles where he can get a temporary one.
The Osun State-born actor said people can identify him by his hair-cut which always come with a slant by the side. When asked about his accessories, he said he loves his wristwatches, beads, perfumes, gold chain and most especially, his glasses. He said he can never be seen without his glasses on when outside. The huge lover of cars, says he loves sport cars and Mercedes Benz cars.
He assures that his female fans are always well appreciated because that comes with his job but he always draws the line between fans and fanatics in order to prevent things from getting out of hand. He says he can be diplomatic about certain things, does not do things in excess and cuts off any acquaintance when they are turning awkward.
He said he is never a sucker for designer labels but goes for anything he likes, once it is simple, classy and trendy, no matter what brand it is. He also categorized himself as the traditional type that loves his culture so much.
He advised up-coming artistes to keep faith in God and in themselves, knowing that ”Rome was not built in a day”. They have to be persistent in all they do, he concluded.
