Burkina Faso's President, Ibrahim Traore, has declared childbirth free in all government hospitals.
He questioned why women should pay to bring life into the world, recalling how his own mother nearly lost him due to delivery costs.
"From now on," he said, "any pregnant woman who walks into a government hospital must receive childbirth services free of charge."
