JUST IN: South African Man Attacked by Fellow Citizens After Being Mistaken for a Foreigner
A disturbing case of mob violence has emerged from South Africa, where a man, reportedly from Limpopo, was attacked after being wrongly identified as a foreign national.
According to reports, the victim was accused of being a
"kwerekwere," a derogatory term used in xenophobic attacks, and was asked to produce a passport. When he failed to respond in Zulu, the mob allegedly took this as
"proof" that he was not South African and proceeded to assault him.
It has since been revealed that the man is, in fact, a South African citizen from Limpopo, and his only "offence" was not understanding or speaking Zulu at the time.
Xenophobic mobs rampaging in Durban, South Africa, are chasing foreign nationals through the streets in what has turned into a full-blown vigilante hunt.
